The NOVAStar 0.8x Reducer/Flattener is designed for ED doublet APO telescopes, including the NOVAStar Emerald ED80D and NOVAStar Emperor ED110D, and is compatible with a wide range of doublet ED APO refractors. It corrects field curvature to eliminate elongated stars at the edges of the field while reducing the effective focal length, increasing both the field of view and imaging speed.

For those new to astrophotography: the “speed” of a telescope refers to its focal ratio. A smaller number indicates a faster system. For example, an f/4 system gathers light faster than an f/8 system, meaning shorter exposure times are needed for the same image brightness.

Using this reducer/flattener with your telescope:

NOVAStar Emerald ED80D (f/6.25) → becomes approximately f/5
NOVAStar Emperor ED110D (f/6) → becomes approximately f/4.8

With the same eyepiece or imaging sensor, the reducer increases your field of view, decreases magnification, and allows for shorter exposure times.

Ideal for DSLR, CCD, and CMOS astrophotography cameras, the reducer/flattener delivers pinpoint stars across sensors up to APS-C size. Correct field correction requires a 55mm back focus from the base of the M48 thread (M48×0.75).

It features a 2" nosepiece, compatible with 2" (50.8mm) focusers, diagonals, and prisms. The nosepiece includes a female M48 thread for adding 2" filters, such as light pollution or dual-band filters.

Use with DSLR cameras

An M48 T-adapter specific to your camera brand is required. For example, a Canon EOS M48 T-adapter (11mm thickness) plus the 44mm flange distance achieves the required 55mm back focus.

Use with CMOS cameras

Many ZWO CMOS cameras have a back focal distance of 17.5mm. Additional adapters are often included with cooled cameras or can be purchased separately for non-cooled models.
